EatLafayette Dish of the Day: 2Paul's smoked meat combo

by Kari Walker

Pecan-smoked pulled pork and homemade barbecue sauces will have you reaching for an extra napkin or two.

In honor of the Fourth of July, this week is devoted to barbecue and dishes that are downright finger lickin' good. Too hot to fire up that grill this holiday weekend? Many of the EatLafayette participants do to-go or large platter orders perfect for the poolside festivities happening around town.

Be sure and check out 2Paul's Radically Urban Barbecue for some seriously delicious barbecue. Today's dish is the #1 combo - the One Meat Dinner. For $11.99, you can have 8 ounces of smoked meat, two sides and bread. My choice was the pulled pork with green beans and sweet potato fries. The shredded pork is pecan smoked on site for 12-14 hours with love by the 2Paul's crew. All of their sides are homemade, including the sauces and salad dressings. The green beans bear a little spice, and the veggie pairs nicely with the sweet crunch of the fries. A tasty looking slice of Mama Joe's Chocolate Sheetcake caught my eye and made me want to kiss Mama Joe herself. An old-fashion chocolate cake topped with a chocolate-pecan glaze is no frills, moist and perfect to share.
