The council's Finance Liaison Committee will meet with LCG reps to receive fund balance projections for both the city and the parish.
The City-Parish Council will begin to get an idea of where Lafayette Consolidated Government stands financially during a meeting Thursday at City Hall with LCG Chief Financial Officer Lorrie Toups and other administration representatives. A Finance Liaison Committee comprising Councilmen Don Bertrand, Kenneth Boudreaux and Jay Castille will meet with Toups et al to receive fund balance projections for both the city and the parish.
"I'm sure we'll try to figure out if we'll be able to give raises [to LCG employees] and that sort of thing," Bertrand says.
The council won't "officially receive the proposed budget from City-Parish President until July 25, at which time a roughly six-week period of hearings will commence. The "budget" - because consolidate government isn't truly consolidated, the council actually reviews six budgets: the city of Lafayette general fund and capitol improvement plan, the parish's general fund and capitol improvement plan, and the budgets for Lafayette Utilities System and LUS Fiber - will be finalized on Sept. 5.
However, Bertrand says he anticipates council members getting a look at Durel's plans before July 25: "All the department heads are busy trying to get their budgets in, so I'd imagine we'll have a budget document here pretty soon."
