Tales of the Cocktail returns to Nola to celebrate mixology

by Kari Walker

In true Louisiana fashion, there's a festival for everything - even cocktails.

The 11th annual Tales of the Cocktail begins Wednesday, July 17, in New Orleans and runs through July 21. The festival celebrates mixology through experiences devoted to cocktail enthusiasts. Events include seminars, tastings, and competitions revolving around spirits and mixers.

Tales is presented along with the New Orleans Culinary and Cultural Preservation Society, which aims at preserving the unique culture of cocktails and cuisine in New Orleans.

While the early bird catches the tequila worm, some tickets are still available for purchase should your need to wet your whistle involve a trip to the Big Easy this weekend. Information on remaining tickets available for purchase can be found at the Tales of the Cocktail website.

A sample of seminars include those titled "Why Rye?" "Airport Bars," and "How Bars Spend Your Hard-Earned Money" for enthusiasts in search of learning more on beloved beverages.

Additional events include daily New Orleans cocktail tours that start in the lobby of the Hotel Monteleone and tour the French Quarter one drink at a time. This is not your boring history lesson.

Can't get away to experience the festivities in New Orleans? Be there in spirit by taking time to visit your favorite local restaurants and bars here in Lafayette to celebrate the history and making of spirits. And, if you've ever wondered how to enjoy sampling cocktails without too much of a side effect, read what the experts from Tales have to say.
