LPSB's malfeasance

Certain members of the Lafayette Parish School Board continue over-stepping their bounds, according to a letter sent to the board this week by Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper.

Cooper's letter, which was sent to the board earlier this week, states that by undermining his ability to do the job he was hired to do, and not allowing him to follow through with the Turnaround Plan, the board has violated the terms of his contract.

Cooper writes: "I am alerting some members of the Board of my view that they have demonstrated poor performance and wrongdoing up to and including perhaps malfeasance in office."

The eight page letter includes a list of more than 20 examples of how the board has thwarted his ability to adequately perform the duties of superintendent, as well as allegations of the board violating state and federal laws.

Click here to read the letter in its entirety, and check back later for an update on the results of Wednesday's meeting, in which the board will make public the results of its evaluation of Cooper, and vote on a resolution by board member Rae Trahan to hire an independent law firm to conduct an investigation into the superintendent's office.
