INDfamily fIND: Market at the Horse Farm hosts food trucks

by Kari Walker

Market at the Horse Farm and LCVC corral area food trucks and restaurants for monthly event.

If you're headed to the Market at the Horse Farm this Saturday, come hungry for more than a serving of farm-fresh veggies. Beginning Saturday, the open-air market will host the Lafayettetravel Food Pavilion, sponsered by Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission.

The pavilion will host area food trucks and restaurant vendors every third Saturday of the month. "We want to make sure we keep the market fresh and exciting," says Carly Alm-LaBar of Lafayette Consolidated Government. Alm-LaBar has been working with Ben Berthelot at LCVC to organize the monthly event that will also extend the hours of the market from 8 a.m - 2 p.m. for the occasion - the market will end at noon on all other Saturdays.

This addition to the market not only showcases local restaurants and food trucks, but is aimed at drawing in a diverse crowd that may not regularly attend the market to shop but would be interested in special events such as the pavilion.

INDfamily suggests packing up the kids and taking them to the market early for an educational experience - meet the farmers and artisans producing food in Acadiana. Then, let them burn off some energy in the fields of the Horse Farm. All that running around will make them hungry, so bring a little cash and try out some of the food pavilion goodies.

It's a great family event that will leave your young ones ready for nap time and support the community at the same time - all the while building on the excitement of turning the Horse Farm into a community park.
