Let's kick start a hippie revolution

by Walter Pierce

OK, well let's just help the Riveters Theatre Troupe bankroll a production of Hair. The Riveters Theatre Troupe is planning September performances of beloved '60s musical Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical at Burke-Hawthorne Hall on the UL campus, and they need our help.

The Lafayette theater company, which describes itself as "a group of uncommon men and women working common jobs with a similar need and passion for theatre and the arts," has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for costumes for the 25-member cast, materials for the set and hiring a band for live accompaniment during rehearsals. Basically everything that goes into a theater production. They're trying to raise $5,000 for the show, rehearsals for which have already begun.

The project has been a dream of director Katie Slattery's for more than a decade. Cast members include some familiar faces from the local stages: Allison Baron, Blaine Peltier, Andre Guillory, Andrew Hunter II, Billy Walker, Mattie Hartman, Jessica Jouclard, Kathryn Briggs, Rick Rowen, Camille D'Aunoy, Sasha Massey, Kristina Marshall, Nathanael Trahan, Garrett Guidry, Louis Toliver Jr., Jeremy Broussard, Allison Zerangue, Emily Thibodeaux, Cheryl Mack, Kylie Michud, Lindsay Unruh, Katie Butcher, Hannah Gilley, Amanda Lyon and Skip Woods.

In addition to the Kickstarter campaign, the company is hosting a garage sale on Saturday, July 27 at 210 Montgomery Drive in Lafayette to help raise revenue. The garage sales starts at 6 a.m.

Seventeen days remain in the Kickstarter campaign. Click here to donate.
