A Lafayette woman is in custody, facing charges of aggravated rape as well as child sex trafficking following a two-week state police investigation.

Authorities say detectives received a complaint that 48-year-old Lorrie Anderson was engaging in sexual activity with more than one child relative. During their investigation, authorities learned that Anderson allegedly brought at least one child to a Lafayette Parish location "for the purpose of financial gain through child sexual acts." The children were both under the age of 16 when the alleged crimes occurred.

Anderson was arrested Wednesday and booked into the parish jail. If convicted, of human trafficking she faces up to 50 years in prison. If also convicted of aggravated rape, she could face the death penalty.

The case remains under investigation. Additional arrests are possible.
