The discovery and subsequent bill for past water usage prompted Broussard, after paying the bill, the seek a refund via a lawsuit.
But an ordinance on Tuesday's City-Parish Council agenda would authorize Lafayette officials to settle the litigation. Terms of the deal include Lafayette refunding Broussard nearly $276,000 from the original bill - Lafayette would still keep $550,000 of the original bill - as well as establishing terms and conditions on an amended wholesale water contract that will expire in seven years.
