EatLafayette Dish of the Day: Masala's Tandoori chicken

by Kari Walker

Aromatic spices and traditional Tandoori cooked meats awaken the senses.

Masala Indian Kitchen on Kaliste Saloom is the destination in Lafayette for dishes rich in aromatic spices, Tandoori cooked meats, and an exceptional Naan. Today's Dish of the Day is the Tandoori chicken that features chicken thighs and legs marinated in a mixture of yogurt and spices before hitting the grill.

The cooking style of this dish is unique because it uses a tandoor - a clay oven method common to Indian cuisine. The yogurt mix coats the chicken and creates a slightly crisp layer on the chicken that is rich in flavor and satisfying to the taste buds.

For $14, the chicken dish comes served with grilled onions and peppers, a side of Basmati rice and dipping sauces. It's delivered sizzling to the table, and the portions are large enough for sharing. Add a side of garlic Naan bread for your table as well and you won't be disappointed with the light, airy tasting bread topped with a buttery garlic sauce.
