Acadiana 365’s Pick of the Day: Stand Up Paddleboarding 101

Pack & Paddle hosts a recreational workshop on the merits of stand up paddleboarding.

Pack & Paddle has a slate of recreational and outdoor workshops coming out this fall, one of which is Stand Up Paddleboarding 101 being held tonight at Sugar Mill Pond. Hailing from Hawaii, stand up paddleboarding, or SUP, is an emerging global sport that gives the paddler a higher viewpoint and strong core workout, not to mention a unique way to cruise and explore Acadiana's many waterways.

Pack & Paddle begins the clinic on dry land with an overview of the equipment being used along with how to launch, how to transition to standing while on the board and various paddle stroke techniques. The class then moves to the water where students learn different types of forward strokes and how to turn the board with the paddle.

Stand Up Paddleboarding 101 starts at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Sugar Mill Pond, located at 101 Waterview Road in Youngsville. Admission for the class is $45. For more information on Pack & Paddle's upcoming outdoor events and trips visit PackPaddle.com.
