Former Assistant Attorney General Burton Guidry announced Thursday he will be a candidate for the Division G seat on the 15th Judicial District Court next year. Guidry is the first to announce a run. The seat is currently occupied by Durwood Conque who, as The IND's sister pub ABiz reported last March, is expected to retire at the end of his current term. The seat is housed at the Vermilion Parish Courthouse in Abbeville; the 15th JDC comprises Acadia, Lafayette and Vermilion parishes.

A former assistant city prosecutor, parish attorney and legal advisor to former Govs. Edwin Edwards and Kathleen Blanco, Guidry has also lectured at UL, LSU and Southern and says in a press release announcing his candidacy that he has the experience to perform the job. "The greatest qualification and character trait that a candidate for judge should have is experience," he says. "Nothing beats the experience of being in courtrooms across Louisiana for 33 years and having the fortune of being involved in some of the most prominent legal cases in Louisiana for the last three decades."

Also likely to retire at the end of their terms next year are 15th JDC Judges Herman Clause, Glenn Everett and Ed Rubin.
