Members of the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Lafayette Metropolitan Planning Organization will not have to file personal financial disclosure statements with the state Board of Ethics, according to an advisory opinion the board will consider at its monthly meeting Friday. The CAC is a volunteer, non-elected board that advises the MPO on transportation issues and, in that role, makes no decisions regarding expenditures of tax dollars.
The opinion was requested in July by Laura Phillips, a planner for the MPO. Ethics attorney Tracy Barker notified Phillips in a recent letter, noting that in order for members of public boards and commissions to be required to file statements the board must have "the authority to expend, disburse or invest $10,000 or more of funds in a fiscal year."
