September is the month for fashion globally. Lafayette is no different. It all kicked off with the IND Style Awards at AcA where nearly a dozen boutiques brought their best, eight honorees proved they were more than worthy of the IND Style stamp and a crowd was so brimming with fashionistas that I was getting whiplash.

Honoree Roxanne Graham brought the leather-trim trend to life with a dress she designed along with the ladies of Coco Eros while Amy Guidry showed off the power of the voluminous '80s shoulder and gold lame. In fact, we aren't the only ones who loved the '80s. The folks over at Maven Menswear and Womenswear rocked The Breakfast Club with vivid color and unexpected shapes.

Vanessa V. gave us an eclectic mix of Americana from native-print sweaters to fur vests and camo. Model Lacey McCoy brought out the big guns, literally, with a rifle to match her tough girl ensemble. And a military jacket and leather-trimmed moto leggings were a huge hit on the runway from the ladies of Knotting Hill. Leather was everywhere. This IND Styler wore a leather trimmed vest while we spotted Brother's Alicia Mouton in a leather-trimmed dress. Last year's honoree Crystall Coroy wore a beautiful sweetheart neckline top of leather, and Prissy Wilson showed up in beautiful leather pants. Amy Lewis of Shoe La La reminded us why the black and white trend will remain timeless with a striped dress, and perhaps the most timeless beauty of them all was Nicole David, who rocked a baby bump in a gold dress from Shoe La La, showing off a style that was so very Marilyn Monroe with red lips and polished hair.

September rounded out with the Tinsel & Treasures Style Show before Judy Dunn's brainchild - a luncheon and style show to benefit Another Child Foundation - debuted. All were filled with beautiful women, national trends and beautiful clothes. And what's even more beautiful is that these shows are the kick-off for a season of events full of even more fashion. Right here at home.
