Vouchers: much ado about not much?

"Taxpayers across the U.S. will soon be spending $1 billion a year to help families pay private school tuition - and there's little evidence that the investment yields academic gains."

A Politico analysis based on several studies of private-school voucher students finds such programs do little to promote student achievement, and in many cases students attending private schools on publicly funded vouchers perform worse than their counterparts in nearby public schools. But, parents still love the vouchers, often simply as means of getting their children out of "tough" inner-city schools.

The gist of the Politico analysis: "Taxpayers across the U.S. will soon be spending $1 billion a year to help families pay private school tuition - and there's little evidence that the investment yields academic gains."
