The Greater Acadiana Food Bank's supply of non-perishable food items is critically low, and that has prompted Lafayette's Manuel Builders to sponsor a food drive starting Monday.
The Greater Acadiana Food Bank's supply of non-perishable food items is critically low, and that has prompted Lafayette's Manuel Builders to sponsor a food drive starting Monday.
The Food Bank supplies food to more than 29,000 Lafayette Parish residents, all pre-screened, including seniors, veterans, low-income families and the disabled.
Manuel Builders has designated its Design Center, located at 2800 W. Pinhook Road, as a drop-off. Other drop-off sites will include several of Manuel Builders' vendors, including Southpark Flooring, Southern Bath and Kitchen and Top's Appliances.
"We saw the need in our community and, as members of this community, felt moved to help meet the need," says Manuel Builders operations manager Chris Clare in a prepared statement. "We live here. This is our home and that means something to us."
For Lemel Jones, executive director of Food Net, the Food Bank's parent organization, the gesture from Manuel Builders is a welcome one.
"We are often challenged by the need for food, but with neighbors like Manuel Builders and their families and partners, we are never challenged by the need for support," says Jones. "We are so thankful for this community of givers."
The food drive will begin Monday and extend through the month, ending on Oct. 31.
