If you want to really know the Atchafalaya Basin, get to know Greg Guirard. The celebrated photographer, writer, artisan and conservationist who has spent decades living in, documenting and protecting America's largest freshwater swamp, will be on hand Thursday night at Joie de Vivre Coffee and Cultural Café in Breaux Bridge to offer personal reflections on his experiences.

The event, which runs from 7-9 p.m., will include an exhibition of Guirard's photographs, plus expertly crafted furniture made from sinker cypress logs, a collection of his published works. The highlight of the evening will be a PowerPoint presentation by Guirard featuring stories and readings from his books. A board member of Atchafalaya Basinkeepers and longtime champion of the Basin, Guirard will also sign copies of his books; everything in the exhibit will be for sale, although the exhibit will remain up through December at Joie de Vivre.

The Guirard event is free and open to the public. Complementary wine and appetizers will be served. Joie de Vivre is located at 107 N. Main St. in historic downtown Breaux Bridge. To find out more, contact Melanie Harrington at (337) 780-2501.
