Flavors of mama's holiday sweet treat with a twist
IND Eats holiday drink of the week is Social Southern Table and Bar's Salted Pralines and Cream. This Bourbon-based cocktail is everything you love about a praline except no sticky fingers - smooth brown sugar and caramel flavors with a slight nutty taste and a salt rimmed glass to add a unique element.
Joining me today in sampling of this jolly little drink was Kate Durio, Downtown Lafayette's marketing and events director who is a lover of Bourbon and also Swamp Pop - who better than Kate to lend me their taste buds.

Kate Durio helps IND Eats sample cocktails at Social Southern Table and Bar
Our bartender, Eli Touchet, started by filling his shaker with ice, Buffalo Trace Bourbon, simple syrup and bitters then poured in a glass topped with Swamp Pop and a crunchy piece of cracklin. So, what did we think?
"It's not too sweet, but it's like a treat. You're not going to kick back 6 of these - well, at least I won't," Kate said. The drink has a buttery taste to it and the confection-like qualities could make it the perfect after dinner drink or a substitute for dessert.
"The kids could eat the real pralines and the grown ups can have these," added Kate on taking those family holiday gatherings to another level of Christmas cheer.
Try making this cocktail at home to sip while you trim the tree or make a list and check it twice. And, while you're making a list to get all the ingredients for this recipe, IND Eats was happy to find Buffalo Trace Bourbon on the shelves at Rouses not too far from where you can also find Swamp Pop.
Social's Salted Pralines and Cream
1.5 oz Buffalo Trace Bourbon whiskey
0.25 oz. brown sugar simple syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 dashes Regan's orange bitters
1 bottle Swamp Pop Praline Cream Soda
Rim a large rocks glass using simple syrup and salt. In a shaker, combine Buffalo Trace Bourbon, brown sugar simple syrup and bitters. Shake and pour all contents into sugar rimmed glass. Add ice to fill glass and top with Swamp Pop Praline Cream Soda.
