BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A group of mostly higher education leaders will make recommendations to state lawmakers about how to tweak the policies governing tuition rates charged at the state's public colleges.

After two months of review, the Tuition Task Force is expected to vote on a set of proposals Wednesday, to submit to lawmakers for consideration in the next legislative session.

The study panel was created by lawmakers earlier this year in a resolution by Carencro Rep. Stephen Ortego.

It was asked to look at: the impact of increased tuition rates on the state's free college tuition program called TOPS; strategies for increasing college access and affordability; and new ways of charging tuition to generate additional money for campuses.
