First Baptist's singing Christmas tree arrives
The crew over at First Baptist Lafayette are keeping calm this holiday season with their annual Christmas spectacular. A great option for families this weekend. "The Singing Christmas Tree" runs December 13 through 16 and this year's theme, "Keep CalmChristmas is Coming," is set in 1939 London during the threat of Nazi invasion.
"The story centers on the fortitude and resilience of a small British orphanage to provide a happy Christmas despite the war. Along the way, the realization that God is with us, regardless of circumstance, spreads throughout London, inspiring the Brits to "keep calm and carry on," because Christmas is coming," according to organizers.
Both children and adult choirs, an orchestra and a large drama cast make up the presentation. For the first time every song in the music is an original, according to the church's music minister John Frank Reeve. David Clydesdale, one of the most popular Christian music composers and arrangers, developed the entire score for this year's presentation.? In addition to the church members, the cast incorporates community groups including the Academy of Christian Arts dancers and Christian Youth Theatre members.
