Congratulations to the 14 UL Lafayette students receiving the fall 2013 Dean of Community Service Excellence in Service Award.

The awarded students are graduating seniors or graduate students recognized for leadership and community service. Each student has completed over 200 hours of service in order to be eligible for the honor.

The semester honorees are:

Kyndia Burton (general studies);
Beth Carbo (health promotion and wellness);
Tyler Dunphy (MBA program);
Jarrid Durand (civil engineering);
Katherine Delahoussaye (health promotion and wellness);

Daniel Gould (chemistry);
Elizabeth Jeffrey (psychology);
Lindsey LeJeune (health promotion and wellness);

In total, the 14 students have accumulated 8,415 hours of service and an estimated $150,000 in economic impact to communities of Acadiana as reported by Dr. David Yarbrough, dean of community service at UL. Project ranged from tutoring elementary students to helping plant vegetation to combat coastal erosion.

"Students participate in a wide variety of projects including with our campus-based AmeriCorps program, working with the Student Orientation Staff or building with Habitat for Humanity," Yarbrough said in a recent press release.

In March 2013, UL was named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the second year in a row. The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll recognizes the roles of volunteering and community service by collegiate students.

Thank you UL for your continued support for Lafayette, Acadiana and all of Louisiana in and outside the classroom.
