by Leslie Turk

Last month, 19,629 passengers boarded planes at the airport, and another 19,627 passengers deplaned, also the highest number on record for the month, according to the airport's figures released Wednesday.

More people boarded planes at the Lafayette Regional Airport in November of this year than in any previous November. Last month, 19,629 passengers stepped on planes at the airport, and another 19,627 passengers got off them, also the highest number on record for the month, according to the airport's figures released Wednesday.

"The high number of passengers were helped by holiday travel for Thanksgiving," Lafayette Airport Commission Chairman Matt Cruse said in announcing the figures. "The last four months have been record-setting, and we have erased a 14 percent deficit we started the year out with due to flight cancellations because of weather in January and February. If we have a large number of passengers through the month of December, we are optimistic it will be another record-breaking year."

Load factors, the number of passengers flying on an airline compared to the number of seats available, continued to be high in November for all three carriers. Leading the way was Delta Connection/Atlanta with 89.4 percent of seats filled, followed by American Eagle/Dallas with 86 percent and United Airlines/Houston with 83.2 percent.

Lafayette Regional Airport offers multiple daily nonstop flights to Atlanta, Dallas and Houston.
