LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - French Ambassador François Delattre will speak to fall graduates Friday at UL Lafayette.

He will also receive an honorary doctorate of francophone studies at the commencement at the Cajundome. Interim Provost Bradd Clark says the honorary doctorate highlights the shared past and common desires of France and Louisiana.

Delattre was named ambassador to the United States in 2011. He was France's ambassador to Canada from 2008 to 2011, having joined the French foreign ministry in 1989.
