What's in a name?
It seems the so-called controversy over what the UL Ragin' Cajuns want to call themselves has heated up again, The Daily Advertiser reports here. While the University of Louisiana at Monroe is content with being called UL-Monroe, or ULM, the Cajuns are having none of it. School officials are apparently up in arms over a "University Reference Guide" recently released by the Sun Belt Conference, which refers to the school on first reference as UL-Lafayette, followed by the abbreviated UL-L, both of which were approved by the university's president, Dr. Joseph Savoie, the story claims. The extra "L," and the hyphen, however, are now unacceptable to school officials, who are insisting on being called Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns, and are saying the school has never used the abbreviation ULL.

Targeting Dollar General
In St. Martin Parish, Dollar General has become a hot-spot for armed robberies. According to this report from KLFY TV 10, three stores have been held up over the last four months, with the most recent coming Sunday at a location in Cade. The trend has law enforcement officials searching for a connection between the cases, with St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Maj. Ginny Higgins telling KLFY, "I guess once we are able to find out who did this maybe that's one of the questions they can answer; why they targeted these particular stores." The connection may be more obvious than it seems considering there's a Dollar General on just about every major street corner in just about every municipality throughout Acadiana.

Principal on trial
The trial of Darius Sias, a former principal with the Iberia Parish School System, got under way Monday in 16th Judicial District Court, but according to this report from KATC TV 3, there's "a twist in the case." It seems one of the primary witnesses in the case, Jerrel Tauzin, the former Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office deputy who arrested Sias in 2008, has a rap sheet of his own. Shortly after arresting Sias on an array of charges - including possession of cocaine, possession of counterfeit money, possession of drug paraphernalia, three counts of possessing an illegal firearm and perjury - Tauzin himself was arrested for a series of home burglaries he allegedly committed throughout Iberia and Lafayette parishes. Though Sias's legal team is calling for a mistrial, the trial, according to KATC, is ongoing.
