The squeaky wheel
After a healthy dose of hell raising by UL Lafayette officials bent out-of-shape over a "University Reference Guide" issued by the Sun Belt Conference - all over the inclusion of a hyphen in the school's name - it didn't take long for conference Commissioner Karl Benson to bend to the pressure. Within 24 hours of all the brouhaha, Benson issued this statement, with revisions included: "I apologize for the omission of Louisiana' Ragin' Cajuns as well as the incorrect listing for UL Lafayette and I further apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused." Oh, and to keep things fair, the Sun Belt also revised its listing for the other UL, the one up in North Louisiana.
All in the name of beauty
Trailers and campers are under fire in Duson, where Mayor Johnny Thibodeaux is pushing for tighter regulations in an effort to beautify the city, according to this report by KLFY TV 10. In addition to implementing an age limit on trailers and banning the use of campers as a place of residence, the proposed ordinance also calls for certain types of skirting, or as Thibodeaux tells KLFY, "not no wood or plywood or tin or whatever." He goes on to reference a similar effort spearheaded by Lafayette City-Parish Councilman Kevin Naquin, saying "Not everyone is going to agree with what we're doing. If we want to clean up our town, then there are some things we are going to have to do."
Smokin' in the girls' room
While most students upset over having to go to school would typically just fake an illness or skip out or something to that effect, this 17-year-old St. Landry Parish high schooler took it to a whole new level: She set the school's bathroom on fire. Her plan likely didn't go as she'd hoped, because instead of being sent home on suspension, she's now being held in the St. Landry Parish Jail on one count of aggravated arson, reports KLFY TV 10. According to the report, the reason she gave sheriff's deputies for setting the fire was because she had been "forced" to go to school that day.
