Lafayette public schools closing Friday cause we're all a bunch of babies!

by Leslie Turk

"A chance of wintry precipitation beginning this evening" and the possibility of "some freezing rain" has forced the closure of all Lafayette Parish public schools. C'est What?!?!

An Arctic front reported to be moving through the area today, which will "bring cold temperatures and a chance of wintry precipitation beginning this evening," has forced the closure of Lafayette Parish public schools.

A statement issued from the system at about 3 p.m. Thursday confirmed the closures:

Rain is possible with sleet mixing in after 9 p.m. Some freezing rain could be added to the mix overnight, with a wintry mix possible through about 4 p.m. tomorrow. It is possible the icy weather will remain west of the area, but if sleet or freezing rain does fall, driving conditions could be very treacherous from this evening through tomorrow, especially on elevated roadways.

Due to anticipated hazardous road conditions as a result of predicted freezing precipitation all public schools in Lafayette Parish will be closed on Friday, January 24, 2014. This also includes all administrative offices.
