Former Sonic Drive-In will open as local concept, Broaddus Burgers, in mid-March, offering a build-your-own-burger menu with curbside service.

Broaddus Burgers is a local burger concept slated to open in mid-March on Moss Street in the shuttered Sonic Drive-In next to Mexican restaurant El Potrillo and across from Pizza Village.

Owner Shawn Broaddus plans to keep his restaurant a drive-in-style establishment reminiscent of A&W Restaurants from the 50s with personalized curbside ordering service without an intercom system. "Customers will place their orders by using a pulley system that activates a flag to send someone out for a face-to-face order," says Broaddus. Once a server arrives to take an order, the customer will then build his own custom burger from a menu featuring burger patties like beef, turkey and tuna, and then select a bun and toppings to complete the sandwich.

Broaddus Burgers also plans to serve frosty, handmade milk shakes and protein shakes for the health conscious.

Broaddus originally planned to open the restaurant in January 2014 after acquiring the property in early 2013.
