Follow the leader

School transformation begins here

This week educators and stake holders in the Lafayette Parish School System will gather for The Leader in Me symposium thanks to United Way of Acadaiana. The event that runs Wednesday through Friday at the Cajundome Convention Center aims to transform schools using the principals of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Attendees will learn best practices from their peers at educator-led breakout sessions with the goal of transforming an entire school. Results of Franklin Covey's The Leader in Me series range from higher academic achievement to fewer discipline problems and increased engagement among teachers and parents. There is a focus on equipping students with self-confidence and skills they need to thrive in the future. Keynote speakers are Muriel Summers and Erin Gruwell.

According to United Way of Acadiana's chief operating officer Sarah Berthelot the series has amazing effect on schools across the world and offers an opportunity for Acadiana to learn how Leader in Me can support schools locally.

"Daily we hear stories of children leading in remarkable ways, staff collaborating like never before, and communities coming together to create transformational change," says Sean Covey, Franklin Covey's Education Practice Leader. "This is a lasting tribute to my father, Dr. Stephen R. Covey, who saw The Leader in Me as the pinnacle of his life's work."
