Party Girl

We've all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and local event planners are taking that advice to heart. Breakfast events in Acadiana occur year-round, giving us a great start to our day and a chance for a bit of socializing before tackling that pile of work on our desks. Lafayette Coming Together's Fiber Breakfast June 23 took advantage of the opportunity to feed guests a hearty River Oaks breakfast and to push its agenda. The organization is a grassroots group working to pass the LUS Fiber-to-the-Home referendum. Party Girl had the chance to further discuss fiber with all her friends out there and plans to be out at the polls July 16. I expect to see y'all there!

The Chamber of Commerce's Business Over Breakfast gets better every year, especially since they've added a live band. The big band sounds of The Skyliners contributed to the patriotic theme this year, and the U.S. Marine Corps' TOW Platoon even made an appearance to present the colors. The Chamber's mid-year update on Power Point was also set to music ' appropriately enough, the song "Taking Care of Business." More than 600 guests also took care of business with à la carte's full spread and special grilled pork chops au jus and creamed praline yams. "One comment I got was the only thing missing was female dancers dressed in '40s garb swinging with soldiers," says event coordinator Patricia Parks. "It was a full house! The band was great."

Known for their evening get togethers at their fabulous West Bayou Parkway home, Glenn and Dana Armentor have started throwing some pretty unique parties lately. In addition to all-inclusive events with food, music and friends, the couple decided to hold a fundraiser to help the Ragin' Cajun Amateur Boxing Club. Glenn has a deep respect for club director Beau Williford, and the event raised more than $50,000 to help the club build a facility of its own. More than 300 invitations were sent out, and guests had the chance to see videotaped testimonials from heavyweight champion Larry Holmes and trainer legends Angelo Dundee and Teddy Atlas. Glenn, along with Adrian Vega, has more events of this type in the works. It's worth it to spend the evening with such great folks and a good cause!
