FASHION WEEK: Breaking it down

by Amanda Bedgood

IND Style does the Big Easy

This weekend IND Style headed to New Orleans for 20 runway shows and more design than we could shake a measuring tape at. New Orleans is now home to two independent fashion weeks - Fashion Week New Orleans and NOLA Fashion Week. Confused yet? We break em down for you this week.

We headed Friday night to the Board of Trade for Fashion Week New Orleans. The show included 17 shows back-to-back in a combo of both boutiques and original designers. Saturday we attempted shopping during the day but eventually I was too overwhelmed by the choices and crowds of H&M and gave up leaving with just a leopard wrap dress from Wish.

Saturday night we headed to The Shops at Canal for NOLA Fashion Week. The approach is more intimate with the crowd choosing shows designer-by-designer. We hit up three on Saturday evening including the famed Anthony Ryan of Project Runway. (Two words crop tops.)

Each day we'll show you some of the best in fashion from the Big Easy so stay tuned. And what did this IND Styler wear? Well, in NOLA you never really know where you'll end up (or is that just me?) so I went for a combo of style and comfort each day.

Friday night I wore an asymmetrical red silk dress with nude patent heels that left my feet pretty angry with me by evening's end. Saturday shopping I did the slouchy dress, moto boots and kimono thing. Thanks to little time and a love for all things braided, I rocked a side braid for Saturday night's shows wearing a reptile print maxi dress with some amazing rose gold nearly flat gladiator sandals (a la Vanessa V.) that my feet thanked me for come Sunday morning.
