The Preservation Alliance of Lafayette honored late architect A. Hays Town with a party at Iberia Bank's Oil Center branch Oct. 15. The location was fitting, as A. Hays Town designed the bank building, and a trolley took guests along oak-shaded streets to view several of the architect's homes around Girard Park. A quick stop at the UL Lafayette Alumni Center was a special treat, as the building is the architect's first residential design and one he considered his finest work. Back at the bank, refreshments from à la carte were served, and the lobby was decorated with posters of the eight properties on the tour. The alliance works to preserve and celebrate historic homes around town, in addition to keeping the memory of A. Hays Town alive. Kudos to Jeff Larcade and Judi Gunn for an elegant event!
In the birthday arena, Coury Moss' 30th birthday fête might be one of the most talked-about parties of the month. Held at the fancy vault at the Acadiana Center for the Arts downtown, the party combined good food, friends and art. Coury's girlfriend, Sarah James, helped bring everything together, gathering about 60 guests and an array of food from Zea, Poseidon's, Cedar Grocery and a special cake from Anjo's. DJ Super Dave and DJ Johnny Cage kept the party going and got Sharon Moss and Curtis Roy out on the dancefloor. And guests were invited to tour the center and view the Greatest Album Covers That Never Were exhibit, in addition to making some art of their own on a collage wall-hanging they gave to Coury after the party. "All in all, the party was a success with a capital 'S,'" says Sarah James. And yes, y'all, the vault is available for rent!
Lastly, the Junior League of Lafayette celebrated the release of its new cookbook, Something to Talk About, last week at à la carte. And people were talking, about the book's beautiful photographs and scrumptious recipes. It's designed as menus for special occasions, so pick up a copy for your next tailgating party, bridal party or the upcoming Thanksgiving holidays. Your guests will be talking!
