MAY 1 One of the "stars" of the reality show Swamp People has died of heart failure, TMZ reports in this post. It was the cast member who contributed the least to Louisiana cliches: Tyler the dog. He was known (apparently) for licking alligator heads and loving Little Debbies. RIP Tyler.

WaPo: Indictment OK, Kissing Bad?
MAY 1 The Washington Post's The Fix blog takes a look at a tale of two Congressmen in this post. The GOP says Vance McAllister needs to resign immediately for kissing a lady not his wife, but a guy accused in a 20-count federal indictment is OK to stay, the post predicts. Say what?

You can go back to bed, you're irrelevant
MAY 1 Blogger Tom Aswell has some bad news: democracy is dead, and you're vote doesn't matter. What the heck is he talking about? Reality, man! Oh -- and SuperPACs. Sadly, he's not wrong.

MAY 1 Mark Moseley has an interesting take on the Sterling fiasco in this post on The Lens. He finds the billionaire's "rambling" manifesto on racism to be "refreshingly candid." What was Sterling trying to say to his "delicate" mistress/girlfriend/whatever? That everybody's racist and you have to be aware of that. Hmm...

CB: where's that big savings report?
MAY 1 Blogger CB Forgotston isn't too impressed with the firm Bobby Jindal hired to find "savings" in his budget. They're late with their report, and it seems our legislators aren't even noticing, CB says.

MAY 1 Fred Schwartz, the architect who designed New Jersey's 9-11 Memorial, passed away this week. A lot of people might not know it, but he had a lot of ties to Louisiana, including to our Lamar.

10 years? Three years? What's the diff?
MAY 1 Here's a post on KPEL about the city going after people who allegedly committed traffic and parking violations and didn't pay up. (These aren't actual traffic tickets, they're the ones issued by the out of state company who puts cameras up at city intersections.) The problem is, the DA says the suits can go back 10 years, and the council says three. With legal acumen like that, how can they lose?

Bonfire of the Vanities West Coast Edition
MAY 1 Blogger Rod Dreher is in rare form in this post, commenting upon the on-going Sterling controversy. In particular, he's interested that Sterling (now vilified as a racist) was recently tapped to receive a (second) lifetime achievement award from the NAACP. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are discussed here, but Dreher looks to Kareem Abdul Jabar to put the mess in "proper perspective."
