Party Girl

Party Girl

by Jill Norman LeBlanc

Three years in a row, special event designer Richard Young and his wife Crystall have celebrated the holidays in style. I'd heard rumors of a glowing dance floor, so my curiosity got the best of me and I decided to stop by and see for myself. After guests had arrived and were mingling, they passed through a black tent and specialty décor as curtains opened to unveil ... the Youngs' pool transformed into a disco! Let me explain: a clear acrylic platform covered the entire swimming pool with laser lights glowing underneath. To top last year's party, the guests watched awestruck as professional break-dancers bust the first moves on the dance floor. On the guest list attending this soirée were artist Thad Morgan and his wife Dawn, Gallery 549 owner Don Leblanc, Bruce Odell, Randy Leblanc and renowned local artist Melissa Bonin. The fabulous food was provided by five different caterers, including Pallette Catering of New Orleans. Friends of the Youngs had lots to choose from, and my favorite was the Martini Mashed Potatoes, whipped with spices and served in a martini glass for a very classy combination. At times I had my reservations if the floor could hold all of us, but it did without incident. One thing became crystal clear by the end of the night: Richard and Crystall dazzled their guests. Next time I hear a rumor of special effects at a party, you can bet I'll be there.

Party Girl marked her calendar in advance for Twelfth Night ' Saturday, Jan. 6. For those of you who are still dragging their heels from Christmas and New Year's Eve, it's time to get back into the spirit because Mardi Gras season is here! Another way I get into the Mardi Gras spirit is by eating King Cake. I had my first bite of the scrumptious treat that morning from Keller's Bakeryâ?¦ yummy. On Twelfth Night, the Krewe of Carnivale en Rio brought the spirit of Rio de Janeiro to the Cajundome Convention Center during its second annual Rio Ball. Entertainment by Rio's royal court and live music from suave Latin band Vivaz lasted through the night and into the morning. I've never seen a dance floor this packed. All were especially amused with this year's theme, "Circus de Rio." The krewe members and their guests performed a variety of acrobatics and gymnastics during their indoor parade, including flying trapeze acts ' wow, what a show! By the time breakfast was served, this party-going acrobat was ready to rest up for all the Mardi Gras festivities on the horizon!
