Are you a locavore? If you aren't familiar with this word it's a way to describe someone who prefers to cook and eat seasonal, fresh ingredients from farms and vendors within the region.

Paul Ayo of E's Kitchen at Parc Lafayette offers cooking classes in his store, but is taking his passion for local food and cooking to the Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market at the Horse Farm beginning this Saturday, May 24 at 10 a.m.

The class at the Horse Farm is free to the public and will show guests how to cook fresh and seasonal food. As for what is on the menu this Saturday, you'll have to get out to the Horse Farm to see.

"I'm not sure yet what I'm cooking - I plan to walk around the market and see what's fresh and pick up some items," Ayo says.

And that's what being a locavore is all about - going with the flow and selecting ingredients on the fly while creating an everyday meal.

If you miss Ayo's cooking demo this Saturday, you can catch another class next month as the Horse Farm is hosting this event on the fourth Saturday of each month.
