The Louisiana Supreme Court has granted a writ filed by former UL Lafayette head football coach Jerry Baldwin, now a north Louisiana minister, in his bid to get money after being canned by the university following the 2001 season.

The Louisiana Supreme Court has granted a writ filed by former UL Lafayette head football coach Jerry Baldwin, now a north Louisiana minister, in his bid to get money after being canned by the university following the 2001 season.
Baldwin's record as head coach during a three-year stint was a pathetic 6-27, but he nonetheless filed suit after his ouster against the university, the UL system and former Athletic Director Nelson Schexnayder, and (amazingly) managed to convince a federal jury in 2007 that his firing was based in part on race. Baldwin was awarded $2 million in damages. C'est what? That award was later vacated by a federal appeals court in 2009.
Granting the writ means the state high court will hear Baldwin's case.
