Judge to go whole hog in gay-marriage case

U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman declined to rule on any of the issues Wednesday, saying he'd prefer not to act in a piecemeal fashion.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A federal court hearing Wednesday focused on whether gay marriages performed legally in other states must be recognized in Louisiana, but that's not the only issue U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman will be deciding.

Wednesday's arguments centered on the recognition issue but were part of a more complex consolidation of other suits, including one in which a gay couple seeks the right to marry in Louisiana.

Feldman declined to rule on any of the issues Wednesday, saying he'd prefer not to act in a piecemeal fashion. He discussed with attorneys a schedule for further briefings and arguments.
