JUL 1 The staff of Bayou Buzz must have been waiting on Bobby's Hobby Lobby speech with bated breath. (Surely he's already booking himself on national news shows to talk about how this is a victory for those Christians who run everything but still are put upon, right?) Buzz has the entire text of the guvnor's statement here, not to mention an outstanding photoshop of Bobby as Che!

JUL 1 A NOLA police cruiser crashed into a hair salon the other day (at night, so nobody home, thank goodness) and WVUE reports the (ridiculous) explanation by the police department: The officer became distracted. Oh, OK. He drove into a building. But OK.

ASWELL DEBUNKING ALEC-INSPIRED MYTH
JUL 1 Blogger Tom Aswell is stomping all over the ALEC-inspired fairy tale about Louisiana's economic picture in this post. Specifically, he's looking at what it is like to be unemployed in Louisiana. (Spoiler alert: it ain't good.) As usual, Aswell takes us down a twisty rabbit hole of details to prove his point.

JUL 1 BuzzFeed's politics blog gives the nation its run-down on Bobby Jindal's presidential hopes in this post. If you can get past the extremely unflattering image on top of the post, it's a very interesting analysis of Jindal's current strategy to court the extreme religious Right, which most GOP candidates seem to be shunning in favor of more moderate groups.

GAMBIT'S REVIEW OF DOC ON KOCH BROTHERS
JUL 1 Here's the Gambit review of a movie we probably all should see - it's a documentary about the Koch brothers, those billionaires who are behind ALEC and most everything else the GOP (and some alleged Tea Party people) are doing these days. The movie was made by Tia Lessin and Carl Deal, who also made an excellent doc on Katrina. The Koch brothers tried to put the kibosh on the film but it didn't work -- because here it is.

THE DEETS ON ST. TAMMANY FRACKING, FROM WILMA
JUL 1 Here's a post on the Louisiana Environmental Action Network blog from Acadiana's own Erin Brockovich, Wilma Subra. Wilma, in typical Wilma fashion, has assembled scads of documentation and details about the plans to start fracking over in St. Tammany Parish. The good thing about Wilma is, she's also able to lay it out in a clear and easy-to-understand way.

BOBBY'S VETO OF AN ANTI-TERRORISM BILL
JUL 1 The Daily Signal's security blog reviews Bobby Jindal's veto of the bill that would have allowed Louisiana to participate in the federal Real ID program. Basically it requires special paper and other compliance for state identification, to cut down on fake IDs and fraud, the blog argues. What does it mean for us? If you want to use a federally-protected facility (like an airport) you'll have to bring a federal ID. Don't have a passport? Hope you get good gas mileage on your car.

YEAH, LIKE THIS IS GONNA CATCH ON HERE.
JUL 1 This post on NOLA Defender covers a bill on its way to Bobby's desk that legalizes miniature liquor bottles in Louisiana. Sure, that's interesting, but let's get real. Is there really going to be a run on tiny bottles of liquor here? Louisianians aren't exactly known for genteel sips of booze.
