Is Guillory planning a run for Congress?

Known for being somewhat of a flip-flopper, state Sen. Elbert Guillory, the Republican-turn-Democrat-turn-Republican, is now considering ditching his bid for lieutenant governor in favor of a run for the 5th District congressional seat currently held by Vance McAllister.

Known for being somewhat of a flip-flopper, state Sen. Elbert Guillory, the Republican-turn-Democrat-turn-Republican, is now considering ditching his bid for lieutenant governor in favor of a run for the 5th District congressional seat currently held by Vance McAllister.

The Opelousas senator's star rose within GOP circles last year after shirking the Democratic Party in a YouTube video titled "Why I Am a Republican," which has since been viewed over a million times. Democrat or not, Guillory, it's worth noting, has always been a right-leaning lawmaker.

Yet, despite announcing his intention to run for lieutenant governor come 2015 (also via YouTube), Guillory, according to LaPolitics, is now saying that a run for the fifth congressional district is a "definite possibility."

"We already have fundraisers in place and the shell of an organization ready to go," Guillory tells LaPolitics. "We've been thinking about it and didn't want to get caught flat-footed. We wanted to be very competitive."
