JUL 3 LaPolitics gives us the latest on Edwin Edwards' biographer, Leo Honeycutt, in this post. Leo has left the post he's held for six months with the state Attorney General so he can work on a screenplay and movie treatment based on his EWE book. Apparently, A&E isn't the only entertainment entity interested in the story of the Silver Fox.

LOUISIANA PAYING DUCK PEOPLE MORE THAN $6 MILLION
JUL 3 Here's hoping you like the Duck Dynasty show, because you're sure paying for it. The show, which features a West Monroe family of rich people acting like buffoons, is the recipient of millions in film incentives, this post on the Louisiana Budget Project's blog reports. Hey! Think any of that money ends up in GOP campaign chests? Hmmm.

CNBC ON HOBBY LOBBY, BIRTH CONTROL AND JINDAL
JUL 3 Jake Novak is writing about the Hobby Lobby ruling on the CNBC's Health blog. He's got a solution for people who are worried about the chain's employees having access to good birth control: make it over-the-counter. As he gets into the issue, he gives Gov. Bobby Jindal some credit for advising conservatives (almost two years ago) against fighting this approach.

JUL 3 NOLA Mayor Mitch Landrieu asked for help from state and federal agencies to address violence in the city, this post in the Picayune says. Why talk about it now after all the violence? Because this time, it wasn't NOLA residents dying: some tourists got shot in the Quarter. As the US Attorney says in this story, "enough came a long time ago."

JUL 3 Mercedes Schneider, as usual, has a lot more info about what's up with Louisiana's education "reform" movement than any mainstream media in BR. This post on her EduBlog gives details about the company hired by state education officials to test students on the Common Core curriculum, and its history elsewhere.

MIGHTY FAVOG SHARES SHOOTING VICTIM'S STORY
JUL 3 Blogger Mighty Favog has something to say about the latest shooting in New Orleans - and so does one of the victims. She was a tourist from Australia who had done her thesis on gun violence in America. Her research had focused on school shootings, but with a wound that pierced her cheek, tore up her tongue and blew out all but seven teeth, she's now an expert on street violence as well.

TWO GUYS TAKE THEIR CRAZY FOR A WALK
JUL 3 On the first day of Georgia's "take your gun anywhere" law, two guys got into an armed confrontation at a convenience store, the Valdosta Daily Times reports in this post. One guy with a gun strapped on walked into the store, and when another guy with a gun strapped on also came in searching for a SlimJim, the first one freaked out. This is the difficulty with laws - they apply to everybody, not just you. But this would never happen in La. -- right?

JUL 3 Thank goodness for the bloggers, because otherwise we would have nary a clue what's going on in Baton Rouge. Crazy Crawfish takes a look at what happened in Baton Rouge on Tuesday at the BESE meeting. In particular, he's looking at Superintendent John White's comments, and how a lot of what he said doesn't match up with what he's said in the past.
