JUL 8 Here's another one of those pointless lists that we can't stop reading on the interwebs. This one ranks the 50 states of the union based on something we should be able to win -- food and drinking. (Boy, for sure we should win at drinking.) But we came in fourth. FOURTH. Behind New York, Texas and California? Somebody count that again.

JUL 8 CB Forgotston is blogging about some "unintended" consequences of a law passed during this past session. It happens every year, and is more likely due to legislators not reading the bills they're passing than anything else, CB says.

JUL 8 The headline on this WBRZ story kind of sums up state government. Apparently, the state department that issues food stamps has a plan in place - now - to stop sending money to dead people. DREHER ON THE POPE'S MEETING WITH VICTIMS
JUL 8 Blogger Rod Dreher discusses the Pope's meeting with victims of pedophile priests in this post. He compares this Pope's efforts (so far) to his predecessors, and gives us a comment from the network of victims. Is it sincere, or same ole, same ole?

DESHOTELS: SHOULDN'T THESE GUYS KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT TEACHING?
JUL 8 Blogger Mike Deshotels is digging a little farther into the Common Core issue in this post. He's reviewing some training efforts tied to the curriculum, and finding that some of these people have never taught before. Is this a Holiday Inn Express situation, where having attended middle school makes you qualified to instruct those who teach middle school?

JUL 8 Blogger Tom Aswell tells a sordid tale in this post, about a land dispute in Rapides Parish. A plot of land that has been in a black family for nearly 100 years has been blocked off by an attorney who, apparently, is mad because the black folks are shooting his deer.

JUL 8 Katie East is blogging about ethics in DIG Baton Rouge this week. Seems she was accused of stealing by a lady who had just gotten a manicure, and it triggered some memories for Katie. It's an interesting discussion, but here's a tip, girl: If a crazy person tries to hand you their wallet, just walk away.
