Romacelli hosting benefit for family of fallen cyclist

by Patrick Flanagan

A benefit will be held tonight at Romacelli Bistro in Youngsville to raise money for the family of fallen cyclist Lon Lomas.

A benefit will be held tonight (Thursday) at Romacelli Bistro in Youngsville's Sugar Mill Pond to raise money for the family of fallen cyclist Lon Lomas.

Lomas was tragically killed last week when a hit-and-run driver knocked him from his cycle into a ditch between Youngsville and Milton, leaving the 30-year-old for dead. Lomas was survived by a wife and two young children.

State Police are heading the investigation into the hit-and-run, but so far, no suspects have been identified, and no one has stepped forward to claim responsibility for Lomas' death.

For Thursday's benefit, 100 percent of the proceeds raised between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. will be deposited into the Lon Lomas benefit fund at MidSouth Bank. The bank also is accepting individual donations to the fund at all of its branches within the parish.

According to this report from The Daily Advertiser, Lomas and his family often frequented the Romacelli's in Sugar Mill Pond, and is the reason behind tonight's event, according to the restaurant's Marketing Director Andrea Drobish.

"This is so sad and so tragic that we wanted to show them that we are here for them," Drobish tells the Advertiser. "We want to help how we can."
