Back to school free haircut event also collects supplies

On Sunday August 10, Cox Communications, 100 Black Men of Greater Lafayette and the Upsilon Rho chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity host the 12th annual Kuts for Kids free haircut event along with Stuff a Backpack.

This project is a community effort to provide free haircuts and school supplies to both boys and girls ages 5-14 so they can start the school year with the tools needed for success and feel good about their appearance. Last year's event provided haircuts to 350 children and gave away 500 backpacks of supplies.

Organizers are encouraging local barbers and hair stylists to participate at the event to be held at Blue Cliff College located at 120 James Comeaux Road from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday.

Cox Communications will register students to win laptops and Kindle Fire tables and will have information on Connect2Complete - this national non-profit organization aims to offer high-speed, low-cost internet for $9.95 per month to families and students who qualify for the program.

There will also be face painting, food and free blood pressure screenings and chair massages.
