Bajkanwar Aulakh

The Daily Advertiser has identified Sunday's French Quarter shooter, who took his own life after allegedly shooting a friend twice, as Bajkanwar Aulakh. The paper also reports that Aulakh was facing one count of cyber stalking and was scheduled to go to trial today in the Lafayette Parish Courthouse:

The 20-year-old, who was originally from Crowley, was arrested by Lafayette police in April for allegedly harassing a former girlfriend electronically. In March he was arrested by LPD officers for allegedly hitting her several times in the face during an argument inside a home they shared in Lafayette, a police report said.

Just before 10 a.m. Sunday Aulakh was pronounced dead inside a 17th floor hotel room in French Quarter from what witnesses said was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

Aulakh and a group of friends from the Lafayette area were staying at the Westin Hotel in New Orleans together over the weekend. Read more on the tragedy from the Advertiser here.
