Hurricane Katrina Day?

by R. Reese Fuller

If Rep. Juan LaFonta has his way, Louisiana residents could have an annual holiday to remember Hurricane Katrina, and possibly Hurricane Rita. The Times-Picayune reports that the New Orleans Democrat has filed three bills to be considered during the upcoming regular legislative session that begins March 31. One of the bills would designate Aug. 29 as a state holiday, while the two other bills would set aside Aug. 29 as a holiday and  "Sept. 24, the date Rita hit, as a day of commemoration for that hurricane."
