Here‘s one way to look at it: This year‘s ABiz Entrepreneur of the Year garnered more nominations than all other nominees combined - in the history of the award. LHC Group founder Keith Myers was nominated by the company‘s media relations coordinator, Benny Ross, on behalf of all 10,000 of the home health/hospice provider‘s employees. That‘s a lot of nominations.
And our panel of judges could find no one more deserving of this honor than Myers, who will join an elite group of past winners that includes Schumacher Group founder and Executive Chairman Dr. Kip Schumacher (2009) digital audio pioneer Scott Eric Olivier (2011) and Lemoine Company President/CEO Lenny Lemoine (2013). ABiz has been choosing an Entrepreneur of the Year since 2009, but the award is not necessarily presented annually. While there is no specific grading system, our editors and staff assess nominees for innovation, job creation and potential for job creation, vision, leadership, expansion, financial performance, community involvement and ethics in business. We had no winner in 2010 or 2013.
Myers serves as chairman and CEO of LHC Group, a company he took public in 2005 and has expanded to 29 states, and also owns Coteau Grove Farms, where he breeds thoroughbred horses. He will be profiled in the December-January issue of ABiz, which publishes Dec. 15, and will also join Schumacher and Lemoine at ABiz‘s first-ever Entrepreneur of the Year Symposium, a lunch event slated for Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Picard Center, located off Cajundome Boulevard behind LITE. Myers will be honored at the event.
The symposium, moderated by The Opportunity Machine‘s Zach Barker, is sponsored by Regions Bank and Regions Insurance.
