The village now says the ordinance will likely be overturned and authorities will more vigorously enforce existing leash laws.

Aldermen in the Avoyelles Parish village of Moreauville have decided to abandon a plan to begin enforcing on Dec. 1 an ordinance banning pit bull terriers and Rottweilers after an online petition started by a family generated hundreds of thousands of signatures and national media picked up the story with gusto. The village had threatened to seize and euthanize the animals.

According to a report by New Orleans television station, citing nola.com, the village now says the ordinance will likely be overturned and authorities will more vigorously enforce existing leash laws.
