Cajuns headed to NOLA Bowl Likely opponents include Nevada, Rice and Utah State.

KLFY reported it first and The Advertiser soon followed: The UL Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns have accepted a fourth straight invitation to play in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. The Cajuns are 3-0 in the bowl, besting San Diego State, East Carolina and Tulane in the previous tilts. The game is scheduled for 10 a.m. — early, we know — on Saturday, Dec. 20 in the Mercedes Benz Superdome.

In a break with “tradition,” the Cajuns, as a representative of the Sun Belt Conference, will play a rep of the Mountain West; previously the New Orleans Bowl pitted the Sun Belt against Conference USA. Likely opponents are Utah State (9-4), Nevada (7-5) and Rice (7-5).
