Jockeying for 2015 Council elex under way

The daughter of a former Lafayette City Council member has begun reaching out to potential donors in a bid to unseat Don Bertrand.

In addition to former Councilman Bruce Conque announcing late last year that he intends to seek his former District 6 seat currently occupied by Andy Naquin, the daughter of a former Lafayette City Council member has begun reaching out to potential donors.

Nanette Cook, a physical education teacher at Cathedral Carmel School and the daughter of former Lafayette City Councilman Al Simon, sent a fundraising letter to potential donors early last month. A copy obtained by The IND indicates that Cook will make infrastructure and recreation central to her campaign for the District 7 seat currently held by two-term incumbent Don Bertrand. A source tells us Bertrand plans to seek re-election to his seat but doesn’t intend to announce it until March. That same source tells us that a south side preacher is also considering a run for Bertrand’s seat, likely as a tea party candidate.
