La. jobless claims rise

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The state labor department says first-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Feb. 28 increased to 2,559 from the previous week's total of 2,144.

For the comparable week a year earlier, there were 2,125 initial claims.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, decreased to 2,541 from the previous week's average of 2,570.

Continued unemployment claims for the week ending Feb. 28 increased to 21,273 compared to 20,939 the previous week.

The four-week moving average for such claims decreased to 21,243 from the previous week's average of 21,364.
