Around Town: Hotel planned for Hugh Wallis

by Leslie Turk

Value Place hotel hopes to build on vacant tract at Hugh Wallis and Kaliste Saloom Road.

Land at the corner of Hugh Wallis and Kaliste Saloom roads is being cleared to make way for a 124-room Value Place hotel, local government records show. The site is near the railroad tracks on Evangeline Thruway, just across from Lafayette Regional Airport.

The 11,570-square-foot project at 200 Hugh Wallis Road is still moving through the permitting process. (Tax assessor records indicate the property is owned by JGT Investments.)

The Wichita, Kan.-based chain, which has Louisiana locations in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, New Orleans and Shreveport, according to its website, calls itself the nation’s largest extended-stay hotel brand. It has approximately 200 hotels open and under development in 35 states. The company owns 82 of the properties and provides management services for both company- and franchise-owned locations.

A phone message left with Kansas-based BRR Architecture, the firm listed as the contact in local government records, was not immediately returned.
