Global Data Systems buys MidSouth Technologies of Lockport

Combination aims to cement GDS as premier provider of maritime communications services in Western Hemisphere.

Global Data Systems is buying MidSouth Technologies, a Lockport-based company providing security, technology and communications to the maritime, energy and transportation markets.

Lafayette-based GDS is one of the largest private enterprises in the region, having ranked No. 36 on ABiz’s 2014 list of the Top 50 Private Companies in Acadiana with $45 million in 2013 revenues. Founded in 2003, MidSouth Technologies serves more than 1,200 customers in 14 countries.

The two companies announced the deal in a joint press release; terms of the buyout were not disclosed.

GDS provides telecommunications, technology, security, networking, infrastructure and data center solutions. The company says the merger with MidSouth will cement it as the premier provider of maritime communications services in the Western Hemisphere, whether in the field, on the rig or on the vessel.

MidSouth Technologies’ employees are being retained GDS. MidSouth’s principals, including founder Jeremie Mize, will also remain with GDS.

“Both companies compliment each other’s broad portfolio of services as well as offer unique integration solutions that together will result in never before seen technologies available to all of our clients,” Mize says in the March 25 press release.

The acquisition will also place additional combined resources of personnel and infrastructure in Galveston, Texas, Lake Charles and Lockport, providing more service and coverage for both companies’ maritime energy customers.

“MST brings years of experience in delivering specialized communications and vessel management solutions to the energy and maritime industries, which are valuable in continuing to grow our customer base in these markets,” GDS President Chris Vincent says in the release.

GDS has additional offices and sales and technical personnel in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Houston; MidSouth also has locations in Houston, Lake Charles and New Orleans.
